EuroTrip Update

Wow. Really disappointed I've been so slow in posting again. If anyone's actually reading this, I promise I'll have some stuff up in the next couple days. Been busy with a couple things, so doing this has been the last thing on the list.

Also, I'd like to send a big shout-out to the boys over at Winging It In Motown. I've recently been added to their "blog-roll", and with that kind of honor comes great responsibility. Once Red Wings training camp begins, I will be making a concerted effort to get 2-3 Wings-centered posts up each week. I'll still keep this an open-forum blog, covering everything from my travels to all of the Detroit sports teams, but the Wings obviously hold a very special place in my heart. Very much looking forward to becoming a part of the Red Wings blogosphere.

Red Wings Three-Week Check-Up

Well, kids, here we are.  Three weeks (that's it!?!) into the 2012- 2013 NHL season.  There have already been a number of highlight moments.  5 point nights from Thomas Vanek.  An incredible, acrobatic save-of-the-year-candidate save from Kari Lehtonen.  The return of a healthy Sidney Crosby, and the Houdini act, and not in a good way, of Alex Ovechkin. Through the first three weeks, the NHL's Central Division has proven that it will be a dogfight until the very end.  There are a lot - and I mean A LOT - of good teams in the Western Conference.  At this point, it seems very unlikely that 4 teams from the Central will make the playoffs.  Given that there are 5 teams in the division, and given that Columbus is a perennial dumpster fire, that means that one of Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, and St. Louis may finish the year on the outside looking in. 2010-11 Red Wings (we think)

With the news this morning that veteran Mike Modano will be signing with the Red Wings on Thursday, I've decided to take a look at the lineup for this year. GM Ken Holland says he's still looking for another defenseman, and that may or may not happen, but let's look at who is on the roster as of now (I'm going to write the 4th line as I want to see it, not necessarily how it will play out): Forwards - Holmstrom - Datsyuk - Filppula Bertuzzi - Zetterberg - Franzen Cleary - Modano - Hudler Eaves - Helm - Abdelkader Reserve Forwards Miller, Draper, Ritola I am, of course, assuming that Helm and Abdelkader sign here in the near future. It would be a damn shame if they don't.
